Kate dazzles at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival

9th July 2019

Kate Duchess of Cambridge, was undoubtedly the star on her arrival at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival Press Day. Unbeknown to most, she had spent a day at the build up of the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival the previous week, quietly helping to plant the Back To Nature Garden she had designed with co-designers Andree Davies and Adam White for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. It was then moved to Hampton Court Palace. She was greeted on arrival by RHS President Sir Nicholas Bacon, and RHS Director General Sue Biggs, where she interacted with fascinated, interested, and playful school children, and guided them round her garden.

Joe Swift and Jo Whiley were the BBC TV hosts who explored the abundant 34 acres of the Festival’s beautiful gardens and plants, and with producers, directors and cameramen shouting "again", it was only after repeated takes that the required standard for broadcast was achieved. The cameras swung high and wide to encapsulate the spirit of this wonderful Festival.

Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham joined designer Jo Thompson and members of the BBC Springwatch Team in the garden which calls on the nation to rewild their gardens, to provide vital resources to the UK's wildlife population.

Raymond Blanc OBE, RHS Community and Allotments Ambassador, Chef and Grow Your Own Ambassador, invited local gardening groups, horticultural societies and allotment associations to design an allotment style garden to promote the benefits of growing your own produce.

The Royal Horticultural Society, the world's leading gardening charity, was founded in 1804 by Sir Joseph Banks and John Wedgwood. The vision was to enrich everyone's lives through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place. This is underpinned by the inspirational gardens and shows, scientific research, education and community programmes. The RHS is fundraising £40 million to transform outreach and education facilities, including redeveloping the flagship RHS Garden at Wisley.
